Six of Hearts by L.H. Cosway
Step right up and meet Jay Fields: Illusionist. Mentalist. Trickster.
I think in triangles. You think in straight lines.
I show you a table and make you believe it’s a chair.
Smoke and mirrors, sleight of hand, misdirection. I trick and deceive.
But most of all, I put on a good show.
The world thinks I killed a man, but I didn’t. Bear with me. It’s all a part of the plan.
Revenge is what I want. I want it for me and I want it for her.
I want it for all six of us.
She doesn’t remember me, but she’s the reason for everything. She’ll be my prize at the end of all this – if I can hold onto my willpower, that is. Maybe I’ll slip up a little, have a taste, just a small one.
So go ahead and pick a card. Come inside and see the show. Look at my hands, look so closely that you can’t see what’s happening while you’re so focused on looking. I’ll be destroying your world from right here in the spotlight.
You’ll never see me coming until it’s too late.
I’ve only got one heart, and after I’ve pulled off my grand deception I’ll hand it right to her.
So, sit back, relax, and let my girl tell you our story. You’re in for one hell of a ride.
Giselle’s Review:
Jay Fields is most definitely the smartest guy in the room. He also happens to be the most mysterious and sexy.
Six of Hearts by L.H. Cosway is a phenomenal, unique, thrilling, sexy, and mysterious read. It has literally left me reeling. The illusions, the mysteries, the romance, just everything, has left me wanting for an illusionist like Jay Fields in my life. However, I’m underplaying my total love for this novel because I am literally OBSESSED with this book and the book hangover I’m sporting right now is quite serious.
After reading this book in one sitting, and having it consume my entire Sunday, I didn’t think it would be possible for me to fall in love these characters so quickly, but after being done with this book for almost an hour, I am already missing these characters like crazy! Not only did I love the main characters Jay and Matilda, but I am seriously crushing on the supporting characters Jessie and Michelle.
This book is definitely one of my favorite reads, ever. How can you not fall in love with a heroine like this:
“It’s plainly obvious that Jay is about as homosexual as Gerard Butler in the movie 300. On second thought, no, I need to think of a better comparison. 300 was so excessively straight it was actually unconsciously super-gay.”
or a trickster/illusionist hero like this:
“It takes a lot of practice to be able to lie to me.” He pauses, voice going soft and sexy. “And I’m too obsessed with you not to know every single one of your tells.”
Excuse me while I pass out at the hands of Jay Fields incredibly smooth words.
Jay Fields has just left me speechless and where can I find someone like him? All I’m asking for is a super sexy, protective, illusionist who can engage in witty banter with me, make me laugh, and piss me off but apologize for pissing me off by making caffeine or carbs appear from thin air…Is that really so much to ask for? *sigh*
Six of Hearts will mess with your heart and head, but in the best way possible. It will blow your mind and the chemistry between Jay and Matilda will have you on fire. The plot and writing in this novel is just absolutely incredible. I was left guessing till the end and my mind was spinning the whole entire time. I am definitely putting anything and everything L.H. Cosway writes on my TBR list, and yes, that includes grocery lists.
Only one word can describe Six of Hearts and my experience with this novel and that word is: utter perfection.
After all, “life is more fun with a little smoke and mirrors.” 😉
P.S. Silvana and I both agree that this book would make one of the greatest movies ever so *fingers crossed*
Silvana’s Review:
“Note to self: Never try to out-trick a trickster.”
Six of Hearts was such a magical, intelligent and out-of-mind read. I am left wanting so much more from this book; the whole concept makes my mind do this crazy kicks because WOW. Wow. I’ve never read illusions, illusionist doing their things. But it’s just the same as seeing it. You imagine it and you can totally see the trick been done in front of you and you don’t have a clue how it’s done.
“If you could crack open the man’s brain and take a look inside, it would be a truly illuminating experience.”
I always find myself loving illusionist’s movies AND WHAT MORE COULD I ASK BUT READ A BOOK ABOUT IT. It’s even better. L.H. Cosway made me fall in love with Matilda and Jay freaking Fields. Matilda doesn’t have luck with men. She tried online dating but still they only wanted one thing: sex. But she finally finds a man who makes her heart throb faster and her legs to wobble: Jay Fields, an Irish/American illusionist. He has tricks under his sleeve; he has mystery dripping from his gaze, and a grin that makes you do double looks. He wants revenge.
My heart was beating really fast and my mind was trying to come up what Jay Fields was planning in all through the book. As I said this book is really intelligent, the words, the flow of the novel is easy and you want to read MORE. I absolutely loved it!
The secondary characters; Michelle, Jessie, Matilda’s dad, ALL of them were A+. Jessie is amazing and I loved her and her persona. She was funny, cool, and a great friend to Jay. I loved their history and everything about it.
“Bitch has more issues than Vogue,” Jessie mutters under her breath, and I laugh.
Since I read the synopsis I said “this book is going to rock my socks off” and I couldn’t be more wrong. THIS BOOK WAS THE-BIG-BANG KIND OF EXPLOSION INSIDE OF MY HEAD. I see myself rereading Matilda and Jay’s epic love story and the whole journey to the end. If I could put more than 5 stars to the book, I would.
[An special comment to the AMAZING BANTER AND COMEBACKS. Jessie and Jay’s conversations made me laugh-out-oud and they were so enjoyable. Me likes this book a lot you can see.]
“[…] but we both knonw that mystery is better than the truth. So why not live with the magic? Be a kid again and believe in the fantastical. Life is more fun with a little smoke and mirrors.”

Yeah, so you two have just hyped me up even more for this book! I have some books to review but seriously, right afterwards I’m all over this baby. I love illusionists and magicians because they have to be one (or more) steps ahead of everyone else and wickedly intelligent to pull off the amazing things they do. Swoony hero, sassy heroine, awesome secondaries, deception and intrigue? Yes please! Lovely review ladies 🙂
Thank you! This book is seriously amazing and I have definitely sparked a new-found love for illusionists after this book. <3 -G
