Love and Other Words
GOODREAD’S BOOK DESCRIPTION:
The story of the heart can never be unwritten.
Macy Sorensen is settling into an ambitious if emotionally tepid routine: work hard as a new pediatrics resident, plan her wedding to an older, financially secure man, keep her head down and heart tucked away.
But when she runs into Elliot Petropoulos—the first and only love of her life—the careful bubble she’s constructed begins to dissolve. Once upon a time, Elliot was Macy’s entire world—growing from her gangly bookish friend into the man who coaxed her heart open again after the loss of her mother…only to break it on the very night he declared his love for her.
Told in alternating timelines between Then and Now, teenage Elliot and Macy grow from friends to much more—spending weekends and lazy summers together in a house outside of San Francisco devouring books, sharing favorite words, and talking through their growing pains and triumphs. As adults, they have become strangers to one another until their chance reunion. Although their memories are obscured by the agony of what happened that night so many years ago, Elliot will come to understand the truth behind Macy’s decade-long silence, and will have to overcome the past and himself to revive her faith in the possibility of an all-consuming love.
GISELLE’S REVIEW:
Trying to put my thoughts into actual words about Love and Other Words is not going to be easy, because words have basically escaped me when it comes to this book, but for you I will try.
I am a huge Christina Lauren fan, huge. I will always recommend their romantic comedies and fiction novels to friends (and foes), but they have seriously blown me away with Love and Other Words.
Love and Other Words is the story of Macy and Elliot and the entire book is the story of them, leading up to the point when they last saw each other as teenagers. As you follow their young love story, you also see where they are now, as adults. My heart could seriously not handle all the turmoil and emotion that came with this book. Every time I put the book down, I was thinking of the last scene I had just read and wondering what would happen next and why they parted ways, aka I was freaking out!! The anticipation was so real and once all was revealed I definitely definitely experienced that “oh. my. god.” moment that comes with every good angsty relationship reveal.
I was such a fan of Macy and Elliot’s relationship and I truly loved the characters as individuals too. The friendship they built as kids, which transformed into their relationship as teenagers, was so incredible to watch and I loved the way Christina Lauren wrote it. That’s another thing I was so impressed with throughout this book: the writing style and plot. It was such a smooth read and so beautiful, it was a mere miracle I managed to put this book down (I wish I didn’t have to but all the traveling put a dent in my reading groove). I absolutely loved the story as a whole and I think it really stands out amongst other novels of its kind. Aka I’m pitching for another Elliot and Macy novel because I loved them that much.
I seriously just want to buy a copy of Love and Other Words for everyone but since I am a college student balling on a budget, all I can try to do is convince you to get it yourself. If you’re in the market for a refreshing, beautiful, heartbreaking, swoon-worthy read that is unputdownable, you need to read Love and Other Words RIGHT NOW! This was one of my most-highly anticipated reads of the year and I was not disappointed pals!! I can’t wait to see what Christina Lauren have up their sleeves next because if this book is any indication, I might just have to dedicate my platform to promoting their books. 😉
